Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards Service - FMVSS
The purpose of FMVSS is to help reduce traffic accidents, deaths and injuries resulting from traffic accidents. The standards, with amendments and supplements, assist motor vehicle manufacturers and suppliers of components to manufacturers to meet federal safety standards.
FMVSS covers many areas related to vehicle (cars, trucks, motorcycles, and buses) safety including: brakes, control systems, crash protection systems, flammability, lights, platform lift systems, restraints, safety devices, seats, tires, windshields, warning devices, and more. The FMVSS Service contains access to the complete Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49 Transportation, and the applicable Federal Register. Additionally, the Service includes access to Title 23 Highways and Title 40 Protection of the Environment. The Service includes change tracking that identifies the exact changes to the standards and regulations, automatic updating, email notification of change, and bibliographic access to more than 1 million current and historical standards.
