Title
In-Vehicle Reverberation Time Test Procedure

GM Worldwide

Publication Date:
Dec 1, 2005

Scope:

The following procedure establishes the required testing parameters for the measurement of the reverberation time in the vehicle. Although the measurement is identical, the location of the measurement will be dependent on what the results will be used for. Appendix A describes the measurement locations to determine speech intelligibility. Appendix B describes the measurement locations to determine the average spatial results for a Statistical Energy Analysis model.

Purpose.

To measure the interior sound reverberation time in order to determine the acoustic absorption of the vehicle interior.

Foreword.

The reverberation time enables an absorption coefficient to be calculated for the entire interior of the vehicle. A short reverberation time correlates to good absorption.

This test is to be used for the purpose of establishing new product program goals for the full vehicle and interior trim components through the benchmarking of competitive vehicles, the development of new product program designs to achieve the specified vehicle interior absorption properties, and the validation of these vehicle interiors sound properties specified for a new product program.

Applicability.

This test procedure is applicable to the full line of passenger vehicles.

Note: Nothing in the specification supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless specific exemption has been obtained.

Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence.
