DELPHI DX550700 Document Information:
Title
PROTECTIVE FINISHES - PHOSPHATE TYPE
Delphi Automotive Systems
Publication Date:
Sep 1, 2007
Scope:
This specification covers corrosion protective finishes for
steel substrates whose basic characteristic is phosphate treatment
and subsequent protective compound. All rinses, coatings, and
topcoats shall be hexavalent chromium free.
The specification number shown in the title is a generic number.
Table 1 shows the specification numbers to be used on drawings and
reflects the type of phosphate, phosphate weight in
g/m2, the supplemental coating and the corrosion
requirements.
Drawing call out example: DX550705 per DX550700.
This example from Table 1 indicates a zinc phosphate treatment,
11 g/m2 minimum with a supplemental coating of a
protective oil type compound and must withstand 72 hours neutral
salt spray without evidence of base metal corrosion. The presence
of a suffix after the specification number (example: DX55705-F)
indicates an approved source supplemental qualification
requirement, as described in Section 11.
Use of this finish on threaded surface and/or bearing surface of
joints could affect the torque-tension relationship. It is
recommended that a torque-tension study of the fastener joint be
performed before releasing this finish on a new application.
Finishes with oil coatings are not recommended for use on
components that mate against a plastic surface.
