Title
Chromium Plated Aluminum Wheels and Aluminum Wheel Metal Trim
General Motors North America
Publication Date:
Sep 1, 2005
Scope:
This specification covers the materials and processing required to
chromium plate aluminum wheels
and trim. Plating durability requirements are also included. This
specification applies for all
cast and forged wheels and could also be used for some metallic trim
on wheels.
Parts produced to meet these requirements have been validated to meet
GM's cosmetic corrosion
expectations after 3 years of accelerated corrosion testing on
durability vehicles at GM's Milford
Proving Ground, exposed to the 95th percentile corrosive environment,
e.g., northeast United States
or Maritime Provinces of Canada.
While not all surfaces of a three dimensional part can be exposed at
the prescribed test angles,
all exposed surfaces must be evaluated for compliance to the
requirements. In order to evaluate a
wheel to this specification, a part drawing is required so that the
analyst can select the
appropriate tests for the various plated, partially plated, and
painted surfaces.
