INTRODUCTION
CHARACTERISTIC CLASSIFICATION
The classification of product and/or process characteristics
standardizes the method used to identify, document, communicate and
control product and process characteristics throughout Ford Motor
Company Automotive Operations. The basic concepts in the Ford Motor
Company method of designating characteristics are as follows:
• Characteristics are either SPECIAL or NOT.
• SPECIAL characteristics are either CRITICAL or SIGNIFICANT;
all other characteristics are undesignated.
• SPECIAL characteristics are listed in a producer's Control
Plan with their special controls.
