Title
PENETRATION GAGES AND GAGING FOR METRIC 6-LOBED SOCKETS
Delphi Automotive Systems
Publication Date:
Sep 1, 1999
Scope:
Penetration gaging provides a means for determining suitability of the
6-lobed sockets formed in
the heads of screws to accept and conform with mating driving tools
for the depth of engagement
considered necessary to develop torsional characteristics adequate to
properly tighten the screws.
The use of screws having too shallow penetrations could result in
production problems such as
reaming of sockets or excessive wear on driver bits.
