A SCOPE
This standard applies to the treatment of threaded fasteners to produce a coating consisting essentially of metal phosphate to control frictional characteristics where controlled clamping loads are specified, e. g. systems which automatically apply torque to yield. Owing to the low corrosion protection of these finishes, they are recommended for internal engine applications only. Phosphate treatments for general engineering applications are covered in JMS 10.13.01. In addition, the components shall be coated with medium- term, water- displacing, soft film preservative in accordance with BS 1133 Section 6.2 TP6a for protection against corrosion, fretting and scuffing.
