General Motors North America
Publication Date:
Aug 1, 2003
Scope:
1 Scope
This specification describes the functional requirements for a sheet form material (flexible, soft) used inside the vehicle door as a barrier to water, air, dust and noise intrusion. Types I, II and V provide an effective barrier and/or absorption to noise when openings are kept small or are sealed. Materials must function in continuous operating temperatures from -29 to 82 degrees C with expected intermittent exposure to automotive industry paint repair cycles. These materials will not stain fabric surfaces. The five types described herein are normally supplied with an adhesive on one side and a release surface on the opposite side so that they may be stacked for shipping. They may be flat or may be vacuum-formed to fit the shape of door components.
