B SCOPE 1 This Standard covers the materials requirements for helical springs used with engine poppet valves. It covers springs manufactured from oil hardened and tempered alloy steel, and prehardened springs of which there are two types:- - Cold drawn and patented to BS 5216. - Prehardened and tempered to BS 2803 Grade 1.
