Scope:
This specification describes the basic requirements of a dry film
lubricant coating to be used on
fasteners to provide low and consistent prevailing drive torque during
assembly.
Material Description. The material to this specification covers
thermosetting resin bonded dry film
lubricant coatings. This coating process does not generate hydrogen,
however, pre-treatment
processes i.e., acid pickling could cause hydrogen absorption. Parts
with specified hardness HRC 39
and higher shall not be acid cleaned.
Typical Application. Typically used on stainless steel exhaust system
studs and nuts. If applied to
carbon / alloy steel fasteners, this coating should be used in
conjunction with a Zn phosphate
pre-treatment, GMW3179 Code D.
