Title
Moldable Paint Film on Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) Film For Exterior Parts
General Motors North America
Publication Date:
Jan 1, 2007
Scope:
This specification details the requirements of a moldable paint
film applied to thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) carrier films
(called thicksheets and thinsheets). These laminates are then
processed into exterior parts via a one, or two step process. The
paint film/thicksheet laminate is thermoformed into a finished
exterior part. The paint film/thinsheet is first thermoformed into
an insert. The insert is then placed into the injection mold, and
plastic is injection molded behind it to form a finished part.
Typical Applications.
Typical applications include appliques, rocker moldings,
fascias, body side moldings, lower fascia extensions, lower
radiator air deflectors, and other miscellaneous exterior
parts.
