Scope:

This standard covers flexible hose assemblies with metal fittings (hereinafter referred to as "hose assembly") used at normal working temperatures ranging from -30 to 100°C or -30 to 130°C under working pressures up to 0.98 MPa {10 kgf/cm2} in the air brake systems and related sub-systems installed on automobiles. This standard also covers the hose assemblies used in air-over hydraulic brake systems.

Remarks

1. This standard does not cover the hoses with couplings used to join the brake system of a truck tractor and that of a trailer. However, this standard should preferably be applied to these hoses except for the characteristics special to them.

2. In this standard, the units and numeral values are in accordance with System of International (SI) Units and those enclosed in braces { } are in accordance with conventional systems of units, appended for reference.

3. Hoses conforming to this standard will also meet the requirements specified in FMVSS NO. 106 (Brake Hoses).

4. In this standard, the following terms are defined as follows (See "Power steering and power steering hose assemblies - ISD-V01-008C") :

a. Hose : Rubber hose section of a hose assembly composed of rubber layers and a reinforcement layer

b. Metal Fitting : Coupling section of a hose assembly composed of two portions ; an end fitting and a metal crimp

c. Hose Assembly : Assembly composed of a hose and metal fittings together with spring protector as required.
