Title
Moldable Paint Film on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) Film For Exterior Parts

General Motors North America

Publication Date:
Aug 1, 2003

Scope:

1 Scope

This specification details the requirements of a moldable paint film applied to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) carrier films (called thicksheets and thinsheets). These laminates are then processed into exterior parts via a one, or two step process. The paint film/thicksheet laminate is thermoformed into a finished exterior part. The paint film/thinsheet is first thermoformed into an insert. The insert is then placed into the female half of a mold, and plastic is injection molded behind it to form a finished part. Paint film/thinsheet can also be laminated to an adhesive film, and thermoformed to form a finished part.
