Title

Delphi Automotive Systems

Publication Date:
May 1, 2006

Scope:

This specification covers the pretreatment, paint materials and some processing requirements for a waterborne, cathodic electrodeposition coating, available in black and other colors. Painted part durability requirements are also included.

All pretreatments, sealers, rinses and coatings must not contain hexavalent chromium or lead (replaces DX550043).

The specification number shown in the title is a generic number for different performance levels of ELPO finishes. Table 1 shows the specification numbers to be used on the drawings and reflects the basic requirements of the specification.

Drawing call out example: DX551401 per DX551400

This example from Table 1 indicates an ELPO coating with a 20 micrometer minimum thickness. The coating must withstand the requirements of DX650059 Class A336. The presence of a suffix after the specification number (example: DX551401-F) indicates an approved source supplemental qualification requirement, as described in Section 11.

Specific requirements shown on the part drawing shall take precedence over any requirements in this specification or may be in addition to the requirements of this specification.
