GME GME R-0-2 Document Information:
Title
Permissible Trailer Load
Zulässige Anhängelast
General Motors Europe
Publication Date:
Aug 1, 2008
Scope:
Purpose.
Definition of the permissible trailer load.
Foreword.
The characteristics of a towing vehicle and its maximum
permissible trailer load are determined by several factors:
— dynamic strength of the body / trailer hitch
— engine power - transmission
— driveability / driving safety
— braking characteristics
Furthermore, the permissible trailer load is treated in
administrative procedures. The administrative procedures shall be
considered as the minimum requirements, but not as a standard for
the definition of the permissible trailer loads, as only certain
aspects of the problems are taken into account. This also applies
to exporting countries; since non-European type approvals are only
for the purpose of ensuring that the towing capacities permitted by
GME fulfill the national regulations for the pertinent country.
The required activities in the engine, transmission, powertrain,
body and chassis areas shall be coordinated by the ITDC PE chassis
development department.
Applicability. Applicable to all M1 class
vehicles according to 70/156/EEC.
Definition of the permissible trailer load is required for new
developments, revisions of existing model series and modifications
to components.
Definitions.
Trailer Load. The mass of the towed trailer
without the static vertical load on the coupling ball of the towing
vehicle according to 92/21/EEC. It therefore corresponds to the
axle load of the single- axle trailer.
ATF. Automatic Transmission Fluid: Designation
for the fluid in the AT transmission torque converter.
AF. Automatic transmission for front-wheeldrive
vehicles (FWD).
AR. Automatic transmission for rear-wheeldrive
vehicles (RWD).
VTS. Vehicle Technical Specification.
Specification that defines the set of targets for a vehicle and
its components or subsystems.
Note: Nothing in the specification, however,
supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific
exemption has been obtained.
Note: In the event of a conflict between the
German and the English language, the German language shall take
precedence.
