These specifications apply to grades of gray iron castings intended primarily for a wide range of automotive applications. Gray iron properties are sensitive to section size. For a given composition, the properties can change depending on the thickness and the cooling rate of the casting. Therefore, all specifications must be referenced to specific test methods.
