Scope:

1. SCOPE

This standard covers metric series all metal prevailing torque-tension type flanged hex nuts of designs that will meet all of the specified dimensional and performance requirements. These nuts are intended for general engineering applications requiring the use of nuts embodying prevailing torque characteristics and having a large bearing contact area, such as, where nut is to bear directly over slotted or oversize clearance holes or against materials of relatively lower compressive strength. Inasmuch as not all of the nuts described herein have been produced and evaluated, it should be recognized that some adjustments to either or both the dimensional and performance specifications may be necessary as experience is gained in their manufacture and use.
