AIAG, STAR, JAMA/JAPIA, ODETTE to Build Automotive Industry Vocabulary Standard

December 20, 2005

The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and Standards for Technology in Automotive Retail (STAR) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with three industry groups to build a global Joint Automotive Data Model (JADM). The Japanese Automotive Manufacturers Association (JAMA), the Japanese Automotive Parts Industry Association (JAPIA) and ODETTE (a European automotive association) agreed with AIAG and STAR to enable common business vocabularies in communication from automotive dealerships through to suppliers.

JADM will include a set of international standards to ensure the flow of electronic data to support business communication among trading and retail partners in the worldwide automotive supply chain. This sharing of information will reduce cost, enable faster and more efficient implementations and eliminate waste within the manufacturing, supply chain and retail distribution segments of the automotive industry, according to AIAG.

Industry participants will be able to access the first version of the JADM through their respective organizations by the first quarter of 2006.
