The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) published National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol (NTCIP) 1211 v01 - Object Definitions for Signal Control and Prioritization.
NTCIP 1211 v01 is a device data dictionary standard that:
- Defines data management information in terms of objects (data elements, data frames and messages) related to traffic signal control and prioritization (SCP) in NTCIP systems.
- Covers the management of multiple requests for priority, or preferential treatment, among different vehicles or classes of vehicles (such as transit, emergency service, commercial fleet vehicles, etc.).
- Enables special coordination operations both within a traffic signal controller (primarily) and with adjacent intersections.
NTCIP 1211 v01 does not cover the process of generating priority requests, which is defined in other standards.
SCP management information includes individual parameters that represent the configuration, status and control information for traffic devices. SCP management information also includes data frames and message sets for these parameters and others to address the operational information exchanges between the devices in a baseline system configuration.
