Yamaha Motors

Challenge
Yamaha Motors Australia (YMA), the licensed distributor of Yamaha products in Australia, had long faced the difficult task of providing parts information to over 300 dealers throughout Australia. The primary means of parts data were paper catalogs that required a lot of space, and microfiche, which required special equipment. The parts clerk was thus forced to leave the counter to search for a particular part, compromising customer service as the customer was left waiting at the service desk. The catalogs were expensive to print and quickly became outdated so Yamaha wanted a conversion to CD-ROM's to solve these issues.

Solution
Yamaha had already created CD products for Europe and North America. However, differences in regulations prevented YMA from adapting either application for their marketplace. YMA turned to the IHS Enterprise Solutions Team to create a CD product for the Australian marketplace. The IHS team scanned the existing data onto CDs and created a query application to help dealers quickly find the right parts for customers. The CD was integrated into YMA's dealer communication system known as Yamaha Dealer Connect, allowing instant access to the latest pricing information.

Value Created
The product has been very well received by the dealers and has allowed them to improve customer service and reinforce their position as the technological leader in the motorcycle industry.
